Materials Engineer - Adhesives

This role will be part-time and about 3-months in length.

A Contract Manufacturing Client is looking to bring on a part-time Materials Engineer/Materials Science Specialist to join their current team on a Consulting basis. The consultant is to support the root cause investigation for adhesive failures within aluminum foil composite honeycomb parts. Process details are currently limited but the adhesive is believed to be a heat cured epoxy. End client is currently within the Aerospace industry. 

What you’ll be doing:

• Provide direction, as needed, to the root cause analysis team to help direct attention to specific process / design areas to identify potential root causes
• Team would execute scenarios and perform lap shear testing to hone in on cause of failure hypothesis
• Specify tests such as microscopy, mass spectrometry, and FTIR on adhesive, substrates, and sub-assemblies in various states of the process, as appropriate based on failure to determine root cause.
• Interpret executed tests (microscopy, mass spec, FTIR) to provide specific rationale for failure.
• Specify design and process changes and recommended controls to prevent reoccurrence of root cause.
